Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is the use of physical tools for treatment purposes. From the beginning, physical tools have been used for the patients by physical therapy and rehabilitation (PTR) physicians. PTR physicians are named as “physiatrist” in short.

Physical therapy tools

Physical therapy tools and techniques are generally administered from outside the body and without using medications. Therefore, they don’t have any side effects or little if any. Primary physical therapy and rehabilitation methods are hot and cold application, pain killer and muscle strengthener electric currents, laser, traction, massage, manipulation, exercises, occupational therapy, hydrotherapy, and ESWT (Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy). In order to assist diagnosis, electrophysiological diagnosis methods such as EMG are used.

Physical therapy sessions

Physical therapy and rehabilitation sessions are made one or two times a day in general. Although duration of the sessions varies based on diseases and techniques applied, it is generally between 30 and 60 minutes. Total therapy duration is usually 15-30 sessions.

Physical therapy application areas
